humpback whales

Hay setenta y cinco las ballenas muertas en Brazil. This is a record of dead humpback whales found on the shore of Brazil. In 2007 the record was 41. Scientists are debating whether its disease that is killing the whales or if it is the warming waters killing the krill that the humpback whales eat. Most of the whales have died out in the ocean and then washed up on shore but a few have washed up on shore and then perished.

  1. Is that so far this year or in 2009? And is it only in Brazil or is it other south american shores that are having records for the same species? I am a bit suspicious as to poaching playing a part, but it doesn't make much sense that they would kill them and throw them back.

  2. That's so horrible! So many dead whales is really sad, hopefully they'll figure out what it is and be able to help them and stop the problem.

  3. I also read that deep-water military sonar tests conducted in the oceans is killing the whales, too. :*(
